Lead Free Valve Products from Flomatic

The Federal Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act went into effect nationwide on January 4, 2014. U.S.A Public Law 111-380. This law reduces lead content from 8 percent to 0.25 percent the amount of lead allowed in “lead-free” plumbing fixtures that touch drinking water. This is similar to the laws in the state of California and Vermont. The State of California has signed into law Senate Bill AB 1953 mandating the lead content of any plumbing/waterworks products that are exposed to the wetted surface of a water system. Flomatic has been committed to providing products that exceed the requirements of lead content for more than two decades.

Flomatic Valves is committed to preserving and improving the environment while producing valve products that meet the most stringent safety and health standards. Flomatic introduced the industry’s first unleaded bronze ENVIRO CHECK®, in 1995, which was recognized as an acceptable material for California Prop 65.

This bill revised the term lead-free, “to refer not to the lead content of pipes and pipe fittings, plumbing fittings, and fixtures but to a weighted average lead content of the wetted surface area of the pipes, fittings, and fixtures of not more than 0.25%.” Flomatic has the solution for these requirements with “Enviro” bronze products.

“We have taken a leadership role which will ensure continuous improvement in processes that impact on the environment. This is consistent with our environmental policy and our ISO 9001 and 14001 environmental registrations.”  Nick Farrara, President of Flomatic Corporation.

NSF/ANSI 372 Low-Lead Certified

Flomatic products required to meet the law have been tested and certified by IAPMO to NSF/ANSI 372, an ANSI accredited third party to comply with legislation. Flomatic places an “LF” sticker on castings or an IAPMO sticker on valves to signify compliance.

*The wetted surface of the product contacted by consumable water contains less than one-quarter of one percentage (0.25%) of lead by weight. Valves that are intended for potable drinking water are certified by IAPMO on September 2013 as lead free Valve Products File No. 6249 to meet these standards.
