As we recognize the importance of national heart health month, Flomatic dives deep into the importance of clean safe, potable water. Heart health starts with clean and safe water, and drinking water valves play a crucial role in ensuring that the water we consume is pure. Flomatic’s valves are manufactured using materials that are safe for human consumption and undergo testing to meet the stringent industry standards for drinking water safety.
Ensuring Safe Drinking Water: EPA and Safe Drinking Water Act Implement National Regulations
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) have established rigorous standards that ensure public drinking water systems do not contain excessive levels of contaminants. These organizations closely monitor water providers at both the state and national levels, checking for compliance with concentration limits for over 90 different contaminants and more. In order to guarantee the health and knowledge of the general public regarding safe drinking water, associations and organizations globally have established national standards and regulations. Under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), States are allowed to establish and enforce their own drinking water standards, provided that these standards are at least as strict as the national standards set by the EPA. What does the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) specifically monitor in the manufacturing industry? The EPA monitors various pollutants in the manufacturing industry including air emissions, water discharges, hazardous waste, ozone-depleting substances, and toxic chemicals.
In fact, did you know? Flomatic® pioneered the efforts for clean drinking water worldwide. The first bronze ENVIRO CHECK® valve, was introduced in 1995 by Flomatic, which was recognized as an acceptable material for California Prop 65. California Prop 65 (short for Proposition 65) is a law in California established in 1986 that requires businesses to provide warnings to customers about significant exposures to chemicals that are known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
Flomatic and the Water Industry’s Dedication to Compliance with Stringent Standards
Firmly dedicated to providing safe water to everyone, companies in the water industry, such as Flomatic, comply with strict safety standards to ensure that their products are safe. To comply with legislation, Flomatic ensures that its products meet the requirements of the law by testing and certifying them through an ANSI-accredited third party, IAPMO (International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials), to NSF/ANSI 372. Castings are marked with an “LF” sticker, and valves with an IAPMO sticker, to indicate compliance. With a mission to bring fresh, clean water to all, each valve product produced by Flomatic undergoes rigorous testing and certification processes. IAPMO provides certification and inspection services, product testing, and educational programs to promote public health and safety in the plumbing and mechanical industries.
